It's patronising as a woman that some people still feel we need a womens' officer. Women are far more strong and independant than we used to be and it is absolutely fair that all groups who suffer from unequal treatment should be represented by an officer- especially those who need it more than women. I don't feel that I need a womens' officer anymore than men need a mens' officer. An equality officer is far more appropriate. An equality officer is absolutely a step forward in my eyes.
