A north Sheffield gymnastics club can now offer more classes and has new equipment after receiving a much needed cash boost.

The Penistone Gymnastics Club was given £3,748 from Penistone Round Table and the Mayoress of Penistone Charity plus a further cash injection from Barnsley Premier Leisure.

The money has already gone to good use enabling the club to provide four hours of tuition per week expanded from just one hour.

Local gymnasts have also benefited from new equipment including a vaulting horse, asymmetric beams, competition beam, springboard, crash mats and an exercise floor, bought with the grant.

“A lot of hard work has been put in to raise the funds needed to give more lessons and buy this equipment”, said Gemma Hirst, Penistone Gymnastics Head Coach.

“We can now take the club to a new level and compete on a higher level.

“We’ve already seen big improvements in the development of the gymnasts, winning four medals in a recent competition.

“This funding will only add to the success.”

James Starbuck, Chief Executive of the charity Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: “This donation is part of our ongoing commitment to developing sporting potential in South Yorkshire.

“By improving the facilities and making them more accessible to young people, we will hopefully aid the development of young talent from around the area, while also providing opportunities for regular exercise and a healthier lifestyle.”

Classes at Penistone Gymnastics Club are on Tuesday, 5:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday 1:00pm-3:00pm.

Classes are available for children as young as four years old and also cater for beginners and advanced gymnasts,
