Dear Emma,
This time of year really gets me down, everyone seems to be enjoying Valentine’s Day but me. Quite a few of my friends are in relationships and I just feel like the token ‘Bridget’ of the group. I’ve never had a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day and so have never done the whole flowers and chocolates thing. Am I destined to be alone on the 14th Feb forever?
Valentine’s Day can be a depressing time of year when you’re not in a relationship, but that’s only if you let it get you down!
Take Kylie as an example, she’s gone through a difficult breakup in the past year but instead of hiding in her mansion with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s, she’s forgotten Olivier and instead chosen to spend tonight having a meal with a girlfriend! Singletons everywhere should follow suit!
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a day for loved up couples but can be a time when we appreciate just how fantastic our mates are!
Grab those mates who aren’t stuck in front of a slushy romcom with a significant other, cook yourselves a fab meal, grab some wine and hit the town! Celebrate today in style with the people you love, and that doesn’t have to mean a boyfriend!
And remember just because you’re single and in a club on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you pull the first guy who looks your way. Its far more attractive to be seen having fun with your mates that it is to be seen lurking near the men’s toilets checking out potential drunken mistakes.
So instead of waiting for a man to buy you flowers or chocolates, buy yourself a new dress, slap on that makeup and hit the town making this the best Valentine’s Day you’ve ever had.
