Faking It

DO YOU FAKE IT? Whether it’s at work, school, in sports or dating, we
all strive in one way or another to impress, score points with and gain
new admirers with the people who “count.” Even if we have to find ways
to fool others into believing we are smoother, smarter and more savvy
than we actually are, we do it. After all, the important thing isn’t WHO
you are; it’s who other people THINK you are.
If you want to learn how to be an admirable Renaissance man/woman that
speaks intelligently on all sorts of topics-at your own seemingly lavish
parties-that are thrown together using the money you shouldn’t have
earned-at a job you don’t necessarily deserve, check out
CollegeHumor.com’s hilarious sophmore release “Faking It: How to Seem
Like a Better Person….Without Actually Improving Yourself” (Dutton:
3/22/07; hardcover $19.95). The book is available for pre-order online
at Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Faking It is a failsafe guide to bluffing your way through on-the-job
conversations, woo romantic prospects with the compelling use of the
term “postmodern,” and feign a deep appreciation of Neruda.  In Faking
It, The College Humour team of experts provides everything required to
pull off an outstanding social life, including appearing to have
cultural knowledge beyond references from The Simpsons.  The sexual,
financial, and social arenas have never been more competitive, so it
can’t hurt to act like you understand classical music, even if you
prefer light beer to light opera.  Faking It is the poseur’s bible, but
with less religious overtones than the real bible, and is a guaranteed
guide to getting ahead-without getting out of bed before noon.
